No tsunami evacuation orders have been issued for Homer’s coastal areas, according to the City of Homer. The National Weather Service Tsunami Warning Center lifted an advisory at 11 a.m. for the communities of Kachemak Bay and Resurrection Bay.
Earlier this morning, the National Meteorological Service’s Tsunami Warning Center issued the tsunami warning following an underwater volcanic eruption in Tonga which occurred at 6.30pm on Friday. The advisory is in effect for coastal areas of California, Oregon, Washington, British Columbia and Alaska from the border to Attu.
“Small sea surges have been observed in Alaska,” the city’s website says. “The City of Homer Emergency Management Team is monitoring the situation and will provide an update if anything changes. Sirens will alert residents in the event of an evacuation.
